My paintings of New York have a stillness in tone that contrasts with my conscious view of New York as a place of constant action. Old buildings begin to decompose and are eventually replaced by new structures of gleaming glass. Neighborhoods are revitalized or fall into decline. Construction starts and stops erratically depending on Wall Street. My paintings are intended to freeze or even commemorate the moment of change. They are a mourning and a celebration of the constant death and rebirth of New York.
